Greeting to the Jabiru forum,

I'm pleased to say that I purchased an experimental light sport aircraft, the Aerostar 1 and flew it from KGIF, Winter Haven, Florida to 3N6, Old Bridge, New Jersey on July 22 - 23, 2020. The total distance was 960 nautical miles. It was approximately 14 hours of flight time over two days. The aircraft has a Jabiru A2200 installed with a TTAF/E 39 hours when purchased. The aircraft was manufactured in 2001 so I was a bit concerned that it only ran 39 hours since new over a 19 year span! It had a condition inspection the month prior with an oil and filter change.

There were large areas of swamp, forests and bays that had to be crossed. And yes, I was a bit nervous crossing the swamps over the Florida Georgia border. Except for the issue of occasional elevated oil temperatures, particularly during climb-out, the engine ran like a clock!! Most daily temperatures on the ground were in the 32 - 36 C range.  It ran strong and didn't miss a beat. The oil ran very clean and there was minimal loss of oil during the 14 hours. I've since solved the elevated oil temperature during climb by installing a larger oil cooler and a more efficient air housing over the oil cooler. I'm impressed thus far with this engine and its design and hope to fly many more hours. I may consider a new propeller as I believe that the Prince P-Tip propeller may be a good compromise with climb and cruise performance (at least that's what many folks claim in their reviews).

Here is a photo at its home base, 3N6 Old Bridge, New Jersey USA

Here's a short in flight video over northern Florida

Cheers,

Sorry, the photo/video links won’t work as it’s a link to my google photo and is not public. I can’t seem to edit this once posted or else they would’ve been deleted.

Hello Jabiruyank,

Good to hear that the engine is performing well. We call that tiger country or in your case gator country. 🙂  What propeller do you have on it now?

Also you should be able to edit your posts now.  And I think you should be able to attach an file/picture, just below the reply/comment text box.

Also check out www.jabiru.net.au under support to find out if there is any service bulletins etc for your engine.

This looks great! Did you write down clues on pieces of paper just in case? It wouldn't hurt to think of some kind of fastener in this place. Because the paper could accidentally fall off, and that would be unpleasant and even dangerous.
