The Jabiru manuals call out a PI10182N (VDO 360 001) sending unit. According to VDO data this sending unit has M10 threads. But, the Jabiru maintenance manual at Fig. 23 calls out a 1/8 NPT thread for a mechanical gauge fitting. If the proper thread is 1/8 NPT I think the correct VDO part number would be 360 003. What is the oil pressure sending unit thread on the engine and the correct VDO part number for the oil pressure sending unit?

Going from memory, which I shouldn't do, the sender we use has a tapered thread.. so 1/8 NPT sounds right.
I'll confirm next week.

Doug.

Hi Doug,

Can you confirm how the 3300A engines are threaded and which sending unit is the correct P/N? (VDO 360 003 80 PSI 1/8-27NPT or VDO 360 001 80 PSI M10X1K).

In addition, do you folks suggest using a thread sealer and/or a copper crush washer? The VDO oil pressure senders I have bought in the past have not come with a crush washer, but the photo of P/N 360 001 on the VDO website shows one. (There is no photo of the 360 003).

Thanks!

Hi John,
Apologies, I was wrong: the thread is 1/8 NPS. Serves me right for trusting my memory. VDO 360 001 or equivalent.
The overhaul manual specifies using Loctite 262 to seal the sender: we don't use a crush washer.
Regards,
Doug.

Having Terrible problems and trying to overcome low pressure on my brand new 3300 Gen 4 engine. I have checked out all possibilities in accordance with the Jab manual. Checked Continuity from the oil pressure sender unit to my cockpit and it checks OK. Cut oil filter open looking for debris very clean. Took off oil lines and oil cooler and flush them,  they also were clean, of course they were new also. Took off oil pressure relief valve, and checked no obstructions very clean and I added a washer. I have about 20 minutes now on a brand new engine that I should not be having problems with. I’m using Aeroshell 100 mineral oil, and the oil level is in the middle dot. Call jabriu USA  mechanic could not figure out any problems or have any solutions. So he called the engineers in Australia and they came back and asked if I had a beveled washer in the oil pressure relief valve. So I took it back out in the washer does not have any beveling to it whatsoever, just a plain ordinary washer.

My oil  pressure on start up initially goes to around 30 psi, as I wait for it to get to 100° I gradually run the engine up and as the oil gets warmer the psi will gradually decrease back into the 15‘s to 20 psi. When the engine gets warm when I come back to idle it goes back down to 7 to 10 psi.

After researching online pressure relief valve problems that have plague jabriu owners in the past there seems to be a whole lot of advice. Honestly the engine was test run in at jabiru before being shipped out why was this not caught.?

The engineers at jabriu Think that the washer might be the problem and it was installed backwards. They tell me that it should have a bevel in It to seat into the piston. Upon inspection there is no bevel it’s just a plain washer on both sides.

So how did my new engine pass inspection with the incorrect washer? I have no idea. So reading in past histories of the pressure relief valve problems it seems they have made new springs, suggested more washers to increase the pressure, Taking the oil pressure sender unit and install it on the firewall,  increase the diameter of the old pressure hoses and also the oil cooler. In one case a gentleman who had a 3300 engine found out the oil pump that was installed at the factory was meant for 2200 engine so it never threw out enough oil pressure.  Am looking for ideas, The reason I bought the new Gen 4 engine is I thought all these problems were worked out.

Getting ready to install a Vdo 360-001 oil pressure sending unit in my new jab Gen 4 3300. Vdo does not recommend using any thread sealer just metal to metal contact. Any feedback from the Jab folks out there?

also what is a good way to use a multimeter and settings to check the old one on the engine?  Thanks

That is correct.  The sender uses the thread as an earth to ground and sealant can break that connection.
