I just replaced the flex fuel lines FWF. During a static leak check with my Facet pump on, fuel was flowing out of the air density sense port. I have been flying my Zenith 601XL for 13 years with the same 3300 engine and Bing carb and have never seen this happen before. What can cause fuel coming out of this port and what should I do to resolve it?

Thanks,

Dave G.

Hello Dave,

The usual cause of that is that the bowl is flooding.  Seeing as you just changed the hoses, I suspect a small piece of rubber from one of the hoses has got stuck under the float valve, preventing it from shutting off properly.

That was excellent advice. I studied a Bing diagram first to understand what route the fuel could have taken and see where a bowl flood made sense. I pulled the bowl and did notice a very small amount of debris. After some cleanup and re-installation, the leak check was satisfactory.  I made an engine run and all was well.

Thanks for the response,

Dave G.
