Hi all, I'm in the process of doing an engine transplant to a newer serial No on a Jab SK. However when I offer up the 40mm carb (previously 32mm) it fouls on the top of the noseleg. Is there something I'm missing/not doing? Everything else is stock.
Cheers
Hi Hobson,
It's not unusual for the carby to foul on the "knee" of the firewall... a lot of older Jabiru's have a little recess built into that area to suit... in fact I have a very faint memory that installing that recess was a common part the process for installing the 2200 engine into older airframes initially assembled with 1600 or KFM engines.
Hitting the leg is a new one to me though... Depending on the contact you might be able to raise or lower the leg a little by moving the collars on the leg, but I wouldn't think you'd get more than about 6mm doing it that way. Would that be enough? Also, you'd only be moving the steel leg assembly - the location of the housing on the firewall and the upper steering connection link wouldn't change. Other than that, I have seen engine mounts fitted with small packers (washers essentially) which moved the engine out of the way, but that can affect the fit of the cowl...
Best Regards,
Doug.
