Hello!

I have a Sonex airplane with an old Jabiru 3300 engine, SN 33A 369. After a long time stopped now its ready to fly again but I have two small problems.

First, the temperature gauge is not working, I've checked the sensor and it seems that must be changed, the problem is that reading the installation manual,  the reference for the VDO sensor is 320 028, but I can't find this part on the VDO catalogue, on the Internet or in Spain, would you mind to tell me if there is a new VDO reference to replace this part, or thinking about buying  another brand, what characteristics must have this sensor? I mean, thread diameter, length and temperature range?

Second, I have the same problem with an EGT sensor, but I'm not able to find this part on the web, I appreciate if you can tell me characteristics, reference or some other brands to get something similar, also there's the problem that living in Spain it has no sense to get it from Australia...

I hope some of you can help me.

Thank you so much!

My father also has sonex airplane, and he uses a bimetallic thermometer, Why you are not preferring to use a bimetallic thermometer? He bought his one from the garage organization store at couponcodify, he always prefers to buy from there because he gets easily every part and things from there very easily, you can also buy EGT sensor from there, if you need more options then you can see varieties of parts on there, I hope it will help for you.

Hello Alberto,

The oil temperature sender uses a 1/8 - 27 NPTF thread.  50-150C and 323-18 Ohms.  It extends 20mm past the thread.

Our dealer in UK (skycraft) should be able to supply but maybe Brexit makes that hard....

We use VDO 320.021 now.

Thank you for the answer.

It's really hard to get something from England now due to the brexit...

I found some similar sender but it extends just 12mm after the threads, can it be a problem?

Would you mind to tell me characteristics, reference or some other brands to get the EGT sensors? In Spain I have the same problem to get them from VDO.

Thank you so much!

Hello Alberto,

If the sender is shorter it doesn't read the oil temperature properly.

If you look for senders with the specifications given earlier they could work.
