Hi Doug,

2200 serial 3574 with 7/16" through bolts. 168 hours in a Sonex. CHTs always below 130C, EGTs always below 720C on hottest (#1)

I was recently going over my engine after a 4.7 hr trip and noticed a bit of black oil sitting along the top of #4 cylinder flange, forming a fillet between the crankcase and flange.

What is concerning me is that when I wiped it off, a piece of the silver cylinder coating flaked off with it.
Not sure if this is because of vibration and contact of the flange with the crankcase or just some flaky paint. (pun intended)
The flake came off the top edge, right in the centre of the flange where you would expect the first point of contact would be.

The torque seal on the nuts appears intact but I haven't checked the torque on the cylinder base nuts yets, thought I'd get your thoughts first.

Cheers
Tony

PS where is a good source for new tubes torque seal?

Hi Tony,
You're on target with the flaky paint idea: it's not unusual and nothing sinister.
Oil on #4 can be spill from the dipstick or breather too.
Regards,
Doug
