Hello,

My 3300 has always had a slight oil leak under the oil pump, no matter how diligent I've tried to seal it. The latest Gen4 overhaul manual shows a newer design oil pump with 6 lobes and a backplate with rubber O-ring that does not require Loctite sealant. Is that oil pump available from the factory, and can that oil pump be retrofitted onto earlier 3300 engines?

Hello,

Yes the new oil pump will fit on your engine.  However I don't think it will solve your problem.  There is some going on with your backplate or the front of the engine.  I asked our engine guys and they said that you should take the back plate off and clean it up and then using a flat surface, like a piece of glass, rub it with some 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper to ensure it is flat.  Also check that the front of the engine where it mounts is smooth and flat and that there is no step where the case halves meet.  Re-assemble using loctite 515.   If you want put up some pictures.  Sometimes we might spot something.

I've been having the same exact problem. I finally spoke to a Locktite lab engineer, who told me that 515 will NOT bond to aluminum.  You need to either get a catalyst add-on (I forget the part #), or use 518 because it has the catalyst already in it.

Flygreen, thanks, I ran into a similar problem, but I managed to solve it, following your advice I used Loctite 518 and everything connected perfectly and works well.
