Cold start

Hi, I’ve had a cold start kit for a few years and it has worked well. I do notice sometimes though that it starts so quick and then as the starter releases and the power drops to the cold start kit the engine quickly cuts out again. It can take several attempts at this before the engine will stay running.
I wondered if fitting a time delay relay to the cold start positive pick up and set to say 10 seconds would give the engine more time to settle before the cold start goes off.
what are your thoughts on this.
many thanks

steve

That is an interesting suggestion.  We haven't experienced that problem here but it isn't exactly cold here in winter.

We'll see if it is something we can do. Thanks.

Hi,

I should add that this is only on really cold days of 0 or below. If the cold start had that slight overrun it would be great. I could install a time delay relay but wanted to check this cold start kit would be ok with this.
let me know what you think.
thanks

steve

Hello Steve,

As far as I know, a time delay shouldn't cause a problem with the cold start.  The coil driver runs continuously in other applications.

Hi, that sounds great thankyou. Just one more thing what is the current draw on the positive feed to the cold start, just so I can select an adequate relay.
many thanks

steve
