Hello,

Comparing the overhaul manual for Gen4 engines and earlier models, the oil pump itself appears to be the same, but the assembly instructions are different. Gen4 specifies Loctite 518 instead of Loctite 515 for older models.

More interesting, the Gen4 manual suggests that the outer pump housing needs no Loctite sealent at all, where older engines did. Has there been a change in the pump to make this possible, or is this an improved procedure that could be beneficial on older engines as well?

Thanks,

Rob

Hello Doug,

Any chance to ask the gurus at the factory about this? I have the oil pump off and like to know the best way forward.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

518 is a somewhat thicker mix, designed for somewhat rougher surfaces.  I think this comes down to personal preference somewhat - the spec sheets for the two products read fairly similarly - but I would expect 518 to be somewhat more "universal" and tolerant of any little gaps etc.

I will have to ask re the outer housing... it's fully machined with an O-Ring seal so - in theory - should not need any goo.  Especially in a pressured application like that where the pressure will hold the O-Ring tight against the housing.

Regards,

Doug.
