I have just seen JSL021-1 today. As an odd coincidence, I appear to have this issue, it occurred on Saturday following a 1.5hr flight. However the difference is I had just replaced the battery like-for-like with an Odyssey PC625. The stator wires are black and appear to have overheated, and the stator does not seem to be working correctly. The battery was charged when it was fitted, so it isn’t exactly the issue cited.

Any ideas what might have happened here? My concern is that if I fit a new stator then the same thing will reoccur. I did not have this issue prior to replacing the battery, and it occurred on the first flight following so seems to correlate. The battery appears to work fine.

Hi Stuart,
There are a few options there... your new battery may have been charged enough to start the engine but flat enough to suck too much power from the alternator. Did you charge the battery before using it?

Another option is that a connection might have been upset when you changed the battery... it would be worth checking that all the wires and plugs on the regulator are clean and secure - sometimes a dirty connection there can cause issues.

Did you happen to notice the voltage on that flight?

Regards,
Doug.
