Dear Doug
My engine is 2200 - s / n 3437. For maintenance service of 100 hours. Regarding the torque to be given to the screw on the cylinder head. How is the correct procedure?
1) Loosen the screw previously and then adjust it? In this case what torque must be given?
2) Do not loosen the screw and directly measuring the torque. In this case what is the value of torque?
Thank you Doug. Sincerely
Miguel

Hi Miguel,
In most cases you can check the torque without loosening the screws first: simply set the torque wrench to 24 lb.ft and go.

The exception to that is if you live by the sea or somewhere where the air is a little corrosive. In those cases sometimes the head screws can rust into the cylinder over time which means you don't get an accurate torque setting. In areas like that it's not a bad idea to loosen the screws (one at a time - don't loosen them all at once) and then re-set the torque. That way you'll get an accurate setting plus you'll see any rust etc before it becomes critical. Depending how much you fly you probably don't need to do it that way every time - once a year is usually enough. And of course if you notice significant rust on a screw you should remove, clean and re-fit it (using the appropriate anti-seize per the manual)

Cheers!
Doug.
