Hi

Today when I throttled back to cruise setting at end of climb to 8,500ft. The aircraft gave a brief shudder. It appeared to come from the front of the aircraft and was very brief (1 or 2 seconds) and then stopped. All readings were normal and continued to remain so for the remainder of the flight. I checked compressions when on the ground and all were good and no unusual sounds were evident.

Any ideas?

Hi Harry,
Do you have EGT data? The altitude compensation of the carby is an approximation and, depending on a lot of factors, it can sometimes get things a little wrong at altitude - but provided the EGT numbers are within limits it's not usually anything to worry about.

The mixture from the carb also goes a little funny for a second or two after a sudden power adjustment - after all it's controlled by both the pilot (throttle) and engine (air mass flow rate etc) so it can take a moment to sort things out when one or the other of those inputs is suddenly changed.

Regards,
Doug.
