I recently had my 2200, s/n 3354 overhauled by Jabiru North America. I could not find inflight engine break-in procedures in the manuals. What does the factory recommend? Regards, |

Hi Tom, Once the initial hour ground run-in is done I've always found it best to go out and do circuits, stopping reasonably frequently to start with to make sure all is well under the bonnet. We normally try to get 5 to 7 hours on a new aircraft before the owner flies off in it. Most of that time will be circuits or flight testing - operations where there's a good mix of high and low power work to bed things in while keeping heat under control. Section 5.10 of the engine maintenance manual gives more details. Regards, |

Doug, As luck would have it, I discovered the in-flight break-in procedures in section 5 of the maintenance manual shortly after posting my question. Thanks for the response. Regarding the overhaul...my 2200 is installed in an Van's RV-12. The only paperwork concerning the ground run-in I received was the logbook entry that the test run was completed, no leaks noted, compression check entries, and cylinder head bolt torque checked. So I wasn't sure how complete the ground run-in was. So once again, thanks for your speedy response and I'm off to do some circuit flying! Regards, |
