I have an Avid Bandit with a Jabiru 2200 built in 1994.  At sometime during its life, probably when it was built, an EGT gauge with probes was installed.  There is no mixture control on the aircraft and my question is:  WHY is there an EGT on an airplane with no mixture control?  If there is a purpose, I would like to know why.  Otherwise, I suppose I will just enjoy having the extra gauge.

Thanks for your help,

Jim

Hi Jim,

EGT gives you a good idea of what temperatures are in the combustion chamber and tells you how well the carburettor is working.  It's not normally needed but is a useful tool to monitor the health trend of your engine.

Regards,

Doug.
