I now have 25+ hours on my new 3300 Gen 4 and am having an excellent operating experience!  I did the first oil change at 25 hrs and was pleasantly surprised to see that the oil analysis came back with all parameters (especially wear metals) normal!  I had expected to see some elevations in metals as this was a new engine and sometimes elevated metals are seen initially due to remnants from the manufacturing process.  Also, the engine seemed "broken-in" from hour one as there really wasn't any high cylinder temps, high oil temps, or excessive oil consumption.  I understand the engines are dyno tested at Jabiru before shipment and then the oil is drained for shipment.  So, just out of curiosity, how long are the engines run on the dyno and are they just tested to be to spec or are they also run through a break-in routine?  Seems I got a really "clean" and broken-in engine! 🙂

Glad you are happy with your engine.  The engine is run for about 1.5hrs on the dyno.  Part of that is the run-in, part is checking it meets specifications.  It certainly hasn't completed its run-in when it leaves here but probably the initial high wear has been done.  Do you intend to conduct oil analysis at every service?

@jabiru-support Yes, I always do oil analysis at every 25hr oil change.  Thanks for the info!

hello

It's great to hear that you're having such a positive experience with your new 3300 Gen 4 engine! The fact that your oil analysis came back with normal parameters, especially regarding wear metals, is indeed a good sign. As for your question about the dyno testing and break-in process at Jabiru, here’s some insight:

Jabiru engines, including the 3300 Gen 4, are typically subjected to thorough dyno testing before they are shipped. This testing process isn't just about ensuring that the engine meets the necessary specifications, but it also includes a controlled break-in routine. During this process, the engine is run under varying loads and speeds to ensure that it is properly seated and any initial manufacturing residues are cleared out. The exact duration of this dyno run can vary, but it’s designed to simulate the early hours of engine operation, helping to reduce issues like high cylinder temperatures and excessive oil consumption right from the start.

It sounds like your engine benefited from a well-executed break-in process at the factory, which is why it has been running smoothly without the common initial spikes in wear metals or temperatures. This kind of care and precision in the testing phase can lead to a much more "clean" and ready-to-go engine from the moment you start using it.
