Hi. Regarding engine A2200 ser.no. 2637.

I see from JSB 18-2 page 10, that the EGT sensor should be installed 120 mm from the face of the exhaust.

In my Storch HS the factory installed the single sensor approx 50-60 mm from the exhaust of left rear cylinder. How will this typically effect the reading? Higher or lower temperature? How many deggrees +/-?

Hi Olav,

I think the 120mm minimum is mainly to ensure the reading is stable, to extend the life of the sensor and get it away from any standing flames coming out of the port.

I would definitely expect the reading to be higher, though probably not by much - a wild guess would be 0 to 10 degC higher.  I've not tried fitting a sensor in that position though, so honestly I don't know.   An avionics tech might be able to advise?

Regards,

Doug.

Hi Doug. I have finished tuning my carburetor so it now has got the version 5 needle and a 2.90 needle jet. Main jet is 2.55. Consumption at 2800 rpm is approx 14-15 lph. I guess it sounds good.

However. Can you confirm the recommended EGT values in cruise as well as maximum limits for my J2200 engine serial number 2637? The reason for asking is I have seen different values stated in various documents, so I want to hear the correct values from you.

I am going to install EGT on all four cylinders with the correct distance from the exhaust.

Regards Olav.

Hi Olav,

I'll always defer to the manuals/bulletins when it comes to figures like that. Can you point me at the documents with the different values?

Personally I prefer to err on the side of richer - a throwback to the days when I didn't have EGT sensors.

Regards,

Doug.
